Leaving a legacy
Wildflower meadow in Suffolk

By leaving a legacy to the Sinfield Trust, you will be helping the charity to plan for the future, to develop and broaden an earth-centred educational programme, secure White House Farm wildlife site and purchase and preserve additional sites for future generations.

The original legacy – what can be achieved

The Sinfield Trust was able to purchase White House Farm through a legacy from Stanley and Grace Sinfield. It was very likely the farm would otherwise have been used for intensive arable farming, which would have destroyed the majority of habitats and wild flowers.

How to make a gift in your will

If you decide to leave a charitable donation in your will, your solicitor will advise on the best approach. If you have an existing will, you can make a bequest in the form of a Codicil. Charities are exempt from inheritance tax, so the whole of your gift goes to charity and you may also be able to save tax in this way.

There are various ways you can leave a legacy including:

  • The residue, or part of the residue of your estate
  • A named item such as a property or investment shares
  • A cash gift
  • An item of value, e.g. paintings or sculptures
